These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) set out the basis on which accommodation at The George, Whitley Bay (“the Property”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is offered to guests (“you”, “the Guest”). By confirming a booking, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. General Information

1.1 The Property is a privately-owned, self-catering holiday apartment located in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, United Kingdom.
1.2 Bookings are managed directly by The George, Whitley Bay and may also be processed through authorised third-party booking platforms and the SuperControl system.
1.3 These Terms govern all bookings made directly via our website or indirectly through any affiliated booking channel.

2. Booking and Payment

2.1 To secure a booking, the Guest must complete the booking process and pay any required deposit or full balance as stated at the time of booking.
2.2 A booking is only confirmed when written (email) confirmation has been issued by The George.
2.3 All prices are quoted in pounds sterling (£) and include VAT where applicable.
2.4 We reserve the right to correct errors in advertised or quoted prices before your booking is confirmed.
2.5 Full payment must be received no later than 30 days prior to check-in, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2.6 For bookings made within 30 days of arrival, full payment is required at the time of booking.

3. Security Deposit and Damages

3.1 A security deposit may be pre-authorised or collected before check-in. The amount will be stated at the time of booking.
3.2 Guests are responsible for any loss, damage, or breakage to the Property, furnishings, equipment, or contents during their stay.
3.3 Costs of repair or replacement will be deducted from the security deposit or charged to the payment method on file.
3.4 The George reserves the right to pursue recovery of damages exceeding the deposit amount.

4. Guest Responsibilities

4.1 The Guest agrees to use the Property solely for lawful holiday purposes and in a manner that does not cause nuisance, damage, or disturbance to neighbours.
4.2 The Property may only be occupied by the number of guests stated in the booking confirmation.
4.3 Parties, events, or sub-letting are strictly prohibited.
4.4 Guests must keep the Property secure and in good order at all times.
4.5 The Property is non-smoking indoors.
4.6 Pets are welcome only if declared at the time of booking and must be kept under control at all times. Guests are responsible for cleaning up after pets and any damage caused.

5. Check-In and Check-Out

5.1 Check-in is from 3:00 pm on the day of arrival unless otherwise agreed.
5.2 Check-out is by 10:00 am on the day of departure.
5.3 Late check-outs are subject to prior approval and may incur additional charges.

6. Cancellation Policy

6.1 Our standard cancellation policy applies to all bookings.

  • Cancel more than 30 days before check-in → Full refund.

  • Cancel 7–30 days before check-in → 50 % refund.

  • Cancel within 7 days of check-in or No-show → No refund.

7. Changes or Cancellation by The George

7.1 In exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary to cancel or amend a booking (e.g., essential maintenance, safety issues, or force majeure).
7.2 In such cases, we will notify you as soon as possible and offer either:
(a) a full refund of all monies paid; or
(b) alternative dates of stay (subject to availability).
7.3 Our liability will not exceed the amount paid for the booking.

8. Liability

8.1 The George shall not be liable for any loss, damage, expense, or injury sustained by the Guest or their property, except where caused by our proven negligence or breach of statutory duty.
8.2 Use of the Property, furnishings, equipment, courtyard, and any external areas is entirely at the Guest’s own risk.
8.3 We recommend all Guests take out appropriate travel insurance covering cancellation, personal belongings, and public liability.

9. Force Majeure

9.1 We shall not be liable or deemed in breach of these Terms if we are unable to perform our obligations due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control (including, but not limited to, natural disasters, government actions, pandemics, or power failures).
9.2 In such cases, we may at our discretion offer to re-schedule or refund affected bookings.

10. Data Protection

10.1 All personal data provided in connection with your booking will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
10.2 By making a booking, you consent to our lawful use of your personal data for administration, communication, and legal compliance purposes.

11. Complaints and Disputes

11.1 We hope you enjoy your stay. If you have any issue during your visit, please notify us immediately so we can resolve it promptly.
11.2 If a complaint is not resolved during your stay, please email hello@thegeorgewhitleybay.com within 14 days of departure, providing full details.
11.3 We aim to acknowledge all written complaints within 5 working days and to respond fully within 21 days.

12. Governing Law

12.1 These Terms and any dispute arising under or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
12.2 The parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
